Week 38

Monday 40 lengths
Tuesday 50 lengths - I swam indoors and it was just tooooooo hot.
the indoor pool was at 87 and the outdoor was 78 - that is a big difference and not the recommended temperature for a pool...
Thursday 50 lengths

That's all - John had a flex day and we enjoy outings... so no swimming. Plus it was pretty chilly.
Total this week 140 lengths = 140 x 25 = 3,500km.

Week 37 - Progressing nicely

No swimming Monday -recovering from dodgy dinner on Friday night.
Tuesday - 50 lengths after the thunder storm...
And noticed a sign in the changing room that says
"It is advisable to not use shower during thunder storms"

Wednesday - 70 lengths gorgeous weather again
Thursday - 70 lengths
Saturday - 40 lengths
Total for week = 230 x 25 = 5.750 km


I am now 25km away from Cindywood

Week 36

Monday - 60 lengths
Tuesday - 70 lengths
Thursday - 60 lengths
Friday - 70 lengths
Saturday - 60 lengths

Total lengths = 320 = 8km (past Ponoka).


And where I am in Houston
 Quite nice for swimming but not for driving... the state of these roads leaves a lot to be desired, and if Calgary can keep apace with road repairs when the weather precludes that for much of the year why can't Houston... many people complain...

Week 35 = not at Ponoka yet.

Tuesday - 70!!!!!!! lengths and the weather was ahhhhhhhh.

Sunday 26 lenths

Total this week 148 lengths = 3.7km
Now at 190.69 km

Week 34 - Closing in on Ponoka

This week's swimming will be cut short by renovations for which MAC is closing for two days.

Monday 26th Oct 60 lengths.
Tuesday 27th Oct 60 hard earned lengths.
Wed & Thur MAC closed for refurbishments
Sunday 2 November 40 lengths - in amazingly heavy rain... it was beautiful to see the droplets hit the water... from under the water... and how they made bounced droplets above it... I would have loved to have taken photos but, unfortunately my underwater camera lies in the mud somewhere offshore Saltspring Island. (Grin)

Total for the week (only) 160 lengths
= 4000km
Which takes me north towards Ponoka.....

I decided to stay away from the Interstate for this part of my swim but I might have to go up on one of those amazing interchanges just to really work those legs during my breast stroke sessions.  For now though I am in suburbia.

Week 32 - is it? I am not sure...

This week:-
Saturday 17th October when I swam 30 lengths
Monday 19th October, as the voters of Canada try to unseat the Progressive Conservatives, I swam 40 lengths.
Wednesday 21st October - 50 lengths
Thursday 22nd October - 50 lengths
Friday 23rd October - 40 lengths (well I did do 50 yesterday + a walk of maybe 4 miles)
Total for week 2.1km

Which doesn't have a pool - in case you were wondering why I am swimming at MAC.

MAC is forecasting a closure on 28th and 29th October - darn it, though we might be up to no good somewhere else then anyway.

This lengthy (in years and km) swim is now called getting to Edmonton before I leave Houston

How wonderful life is....
How lucky I am .
I now live a short (if hot and humid) walk from a lovely pool.  Even more beautiful than north Glenmore's. Memorial Athletic Club I think it is called - MAC for short.
This location has an indoor and an outdoor swimming pool.  The outdoor one is cooled by water sprayers - never seen that before.

For now here is my recent tally of lengths since I moved to Houston a little over a week ago.  As you can see I am beginning gradually and NO that is not me in the pool, I do not and never will wear a blob on my head... my hair just won't have it.

30 lengths Monday 7 Oct
40 lengths Tuesday 8 Oct
30 lengths Saturday 10 Oct
30 lengths Sunday 11 Oct
30 lengths Tuesday 13 Oct
46 lengths Thursday 15 Oct
And with a pool of 25m again that adds up to:-
206 x 25m = 5150 m = 5.150km

Google map will be updated with next blog entry. I have got to keep my computer time  down to reasonable levels this week.

Week 30 - I have to work off the Cadbury's

Swim times at the pool are changing as the weather picks up, more schools are going in before the end of classes for the day.  Unfortunately.

Week 28 - Thank you virus & Week 29

Disappointing weeks... things got in the way. Only swam 9.600km these weeks.





Day 108 (February 27, 2015): 1850m Total 165.389 km
Day 107 (February 26, 2015): 2500m Total 163.539 km
Day 106 (February 24, 2015): 2750m Total 161.039 km
Without too much ceremony I can celebrate the half way mark at 156km.... during my swim on Thursday.
Day 105 (February 19, 2015): 2500m Total  158.289 km.

Week 27 - Swimming in Salt Spring Island Pool


Day 104 (February 12, 2015): 750m Total  155.789 km.
Day 103 (February 10, 2015): 2500m Total 155.039 km. 
Day 102 (February 9, 2015):   1800m Total 152.539 km. 

Went skiing this weekend and used different leg muscles... So I am not using all muscles to swim breaststroke... clearly.
It was tough today and time constraints meant I couldn't just swim swim swim, I had to get out for school pick up.
Then Family Day holiday on Salt Spring Island and a quick swim in their pool in Ganges.  Lovely pool. Hot tub too hot.

Week 26 - Looking Ahead

Day 99 (February 5, 2014):  2500m Total 145.689 km.

Day 97 (February 3, 2014):  2375m Total 140.689 km. 
Day 96 (February 2, 2014):  2650m Total 138.314 km. 
Checked in with some YouTube videos and BBC guidance and then tried to implement some changes. Not big changes but they work and I am now doing 12 strokes to a 25 m length if I concentrate the whole way. That's a reduction of two strokes per length.  Gotta be good: Hard to sustain.

Today I got to speak with Trudy and she is delightful, she had previously said she welcomed swimming alongside me, when we shared a lane.  She is a sleek swimmer and I wanted to tell her she is my inspiration, however, she beat me to it and I was quite overwhelmed, and couldn't take the comment easily.
I wish her well, and hope she continues to swim nearby.
I am trying very hard to improve my stroke and she told me that I had everything in balance and was compact... I thanked her so much because I needed someone to tell me if my hips are out of line... she told me I am in a good line... how splendid.

Week 24


The scenery is a little flat and dull around here!
However, passing farmsteads along the road, gives a taste of the Alberta Prairie life

It was tough swimming today... had they turned up the pumps?
Day 86 (January 22, 2014):  2500m Total 112.564 km. 
Day 85 (January 21, 2014):  2500m Total 110.064 km.

Day 84 (January 20, 2014):  2750m Total 107.564 km. Thanks Wendy for keeping me going 10 extra lengths

Week 23 - It's official I'm a fish







Day 82 (January 18, 2014):  2500m Total 102.314 km. 
Day 81 (January 16, 2014):  2500m Total 99.814 km. 
Day 80 (January 15, 2014):  2550m Total 97.314 km. 
Day 79 (January 14, 2014):  2500m Total 94.764 km. - I hit 100 lengths in 1 hour 10 minutes 
Day 78 (January 13, 2014):  2250m Total 92.264 km. 
Day 77 (January 12, 2014):  1850m Total 90.014 km. 

This week I surprised myself by swimming 13.50km and once.... 90 lengths in one session wow- that's about 1080 strokes.
And then the next day 100 lengths in 70minutes... that's one length every .7 mins which is 60x .7 seconds = 42seconds

Over 100km now.
Out of 312km
That is one third there....

I love a use for maths....
I began swimming at North Glenmore for my 53rd day of swimming...
I am now at my 82nd day of swimming.
So I have swum 29 days at North Glenmore and covered  102.314 -54.614 = 47.7km

That averages at 1.6km a day... though I am doing more like 2km a day now
I still have 210km to go which at the more conservative rate means I will make it in about 131 days.
6 days a week = almost 22 weeks.... 

Let's see what the next week brings.
